National Artist Collectors’ Series Fall 2012: Freeway X Levi Celerio

Fashion and Art were proven to be a fated tandem ever since FREEWAY introduced its National Artist Collectors’ Series in 2009.  This innovative brand continues to collaborate with our National Artists to fuel the strong commitment of reintroducing the Philippines Arts & Culture to the younger generation, thus making Fashionalism hip and relevant.

This Fall, Freeway has officially gone galactic with one of the most loved form of art and the universal language of mankind, Music.  Freeway is excited to feature its first National Artist for Music in the Series, Levi Celerio.

Levi Celerio is a composer and song writer.  Famous for being a lyricist, his songs treasure life; express nationalistic sentiments and complete grand philosophies.  He is best recognized as a Guinness Book of World Record holder for being the only person able to make music using just a leaf. Celerio was proclaimed National Artist for Music and Literature in 1997.

Get ready to fall head over heels with Freeway x Levi Celerio National Artist Collectors’ Series Fall 2012!  The stellar collection includes beautiful modern tailored dresses, sublimation print graphic tees, woven tops in chiffons and poplins, sexy printed knit mini dresses and accessories printed with words and lyrics from some of the most famous works of Celerio which includes Sa Ugoy ng Duyan, Saan Ka Man Naroroon, Ikaw ang Mahal Ko, Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw, Ang Pipit and O Maliwanag na Buwan.  Lots of choices for that impressive workwear that lets you stand out or that memorable weekend get-away outfit.  It’s Freeway’s way of honoring Levi Celerio and his rich legacy to Philippine music. Don’t just sing his songs, wear them!  The collection hit Freeway stores by June 5, 2012.

Now on its 7th installment, Freeway continues to pay tribute to our National Artists through its National Artist Collectors’ Series. This June, Freeway honors its first ever National Artist for Music featured in the well-loved series. In the past years, the series featured National Artists Nick Joaquin (Literature), Ang Kiukok (Visual Arts), Jose Garcia Villa (Literature), Ramon Valera (Fashion Design), F. Sionil José (Literature) and Vicente Manansala (Visual Arts). For Fall 2012 Collection of the National Artist Collectors’ Series, Freeway features the works of National Artist for Music, Levi Celerio.

Held last June 4 at The Row, Glorietta 5, Freeway gathered both fashion and music enthusiasts, media and bloggers, and the family and friends of Levi Celerio to celebrate the life and works of the Filipino music prodigy. The event was hosted by former Freeway poster girl fresh from Los Angeles, Giselle Tongi.
She was joined by special guest Dr. Antonio Hila, Cultural Historian and a Music Critic who shared interesting talks and trivia about Celerio and his dedication and intense love for music.
The audience was able to participate in the discussion by sending questions via Live Tweeting flashed on the LED screen onstage. It was very interesting to discover the personal side of the music legend. One of the highlights of the night was the spectacle musical performance of Levi Celerio’s songs by Asia’s Queen of Songs, Ms. Pilita Corrales.

Freeway claimed it to be a memorable night of music and history, it was indeed! The guests were treated to delectable cocktail servings and took home a cute Freeway x Celerio memorabilia – a limited edition Miniature Harmonica Levi Celerio necklace that actually works! What better way to celebrate the coming Independence Day than to commemorate great Filipino talents!
