It was a whirlwind[ the day I wore this outfit and what might have started a casual ho-hum day ended up as a major one- with me spending my entire day running around the hospital for tests. I was quite happy with my outfit- keeping everything in theme- I was thrilled to get to wear these canvas and hemp nautical shoes from So! Fab which I really really love (cue in my daydream soon to be realized of a yacht party). I love wearing casual, simple and fuss free outfits for errands and nothing spells "E-R-R-A-N-D" more than a doctor's appointment which ended up extending to an entire day of tests. 

As most of you would know, I was recently confined and am currently recovering from a major surgery... this outfit was quite a traumatic one, looking back, as it was what I wore when the bad news dropped on me. On the bright side, I was able to manage my composure in wedges (I don't think my stilettos could've handled the weight of the situation... and flats for me...mean a disease) so all in all I guess it was the somewhat perfect choice, if you would call it that. I don't quite think there is an appropriate outfit choice when you world crashes down due to not so good news. Personally, being the control freak that I am, this is simply unacceptable so I worked with what I have.

On Powerlessness:

Some of us, myself included, do not like to hear this, but there are some things in our lives over which we are powerless. In fact, when it comes right down to it, there are few aspects of our lives that we can really control. 

Certainly the areas of our lives over which we are truly the most powerless are our compulsive behavior, rushing to get things fixed and habits of sweeping things under the rug and compartmentalizing. We hate the thought of being powerless. Being one who likes to steer the wheel in my life, I never want to admit to being powerless. But maybe, powerlessness is the right word related to our doing too much. Our inability to stop killing ourselves with doing too much certainly fits into the category of powerlessness, whether we like to admit it or not. Paradoxically, admission of powerlessness and accepting we don't have time for everything, at the same time, is what restores our power.

People have to face regrets. Becoming mature means learning to accept what you cannot change, facing unresolved sorrows and learning to love life as it really happens, not as you would have it happen. When someone attaches unkindness to criticism, she's angry. Angry people need to criticize as an outlet for their anger. That's why you must reject unkind criticism. Unkind criticism is never part of a meaningful critique of you. Its purpose is not to teach or to help, its purpose is to punish. Life isn't supposed to be an all or nothing battle between misery and bliss. Life isn't supposed to be a battle at all. And when it comes to happiness, well, sometimes life is just okay, sometimes it's comfortable, sometimes wonderful, sometimes boring, sometimes unpleasant. When your day's not perfect, it's not a failure or a terrible loss. It's just another day.
