The Music of the Night

That's All I Ask Of You

Blouse: Topshop | Feathered Skirt: Mango | Earrings: Black and White Diamond Globe | Bracelet: Charriol | Watch: Rolex | Shoes: U.S. | Bag: Chanel 2.55

Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendor
Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night

-Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Phantom of the Opera, 1986

I love watching plays. Ever since I was young, I have been quite the theater enthusiast which is why whenever there is a theatrical production or show in town, my family always jump for joy and purchase tickets. I am quite happy many shows have been lined up for the year and I am excited for the many more to come in the future.

When I wore this outfit, I was to watch Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, which I must say, I was very much excited to watch. My parents were able to watch the production on Broadway in NYC. As for me, I only got to watch the movie version starring Gerard Butler (as The Phantom) and Emmy Rossum as Christine Daaie. I love the movie so I was quite sure the play would be amazing. I did not, however, expect to be blown away. I got so absorbed in it that there were tears in my eyes, literally when it ended. It's definitely a must-see and I wouldn't mind watching it a second or third time around.
(I'm still not allowed to go out technically because of my surgery recovery period but I got a free pass from my doctor for this day as long as I do not tire myself out.) I was a bit uncomfortable but I reckon, the pain was worth it.

Aside from my love for the theater, I equally also love dressing up for the theater. I'm a girl, I love clothes and really, what's not to love about being all dressed up? I was originally supposed to wear a gold sequined dress (very much reminiscent of my Disco Ball sequin outfits in these posts: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and Boom, Boom, Boom, Even Brighter Than the Moon)  but my post-operation sutures made me unable to do so as the sequins probably would do damaged to my wounds given its texture. So, I saved the said sequined dress for another occasion and went all fine and feathered instead in a beautiful black ostrich feather skirt from Mango. I styled a look for a Mango Styled By campaign using this skirt and I loved it so much, I had to buy it for myself. It was just hanging in my closet, and I was waiting for a appropriate time to wear it and when I saw it, I knew... I just had to wear it for this occasion. (Add the fact that it was very comfortable and would not hurt my wounds.)

Now,I would usually pair this skirt with a corset top-as I would do for semi-formal occasions but I decided to go out of my comfort zone and take a rish and went in another direction instead. I paired it with a ruched shoulder taffeta-esque blouse from Topshop in a violet-blue and black print combination. I love the details of this blouse especially the bare back and zipper detail.

I would usually add a belt to cinch the look together but I didn't like to make the look too busy so I kept things simple instead- with my black globe diamond earrings as my statement piece and minimal accessories. The studded part (which is so me) detail was from my shoes, which being gladiator style, toughened up the whole look.

Add up the straight hair and the smokey eyes/pale lips combination, and I was good to go.
To those asking me: I am wearing MAC Lipstick in Angel and Bobbi Brown's Smokey Eye Palette for my eyes. Foundation from Shu Uemura and The Face Shop BB Cream
